Read this article to solve your Sony XDCAM EX3 MP4 files to Adobe Premiere Pro CS6/CS5/CS4 importing issue.

Question here:

"I posted a little while ago that Premiere Pro CS4 doesn't read/import native Sony XDCAM EX PMW-EX3 files properly - no audio is imported.

I was hoping CS5 would change this but after some testing, it's (almost) as bad - audio is imported this time but only 2 of the 4 channels. Audio playback is very weird - a very high pitch playback just like the footage has been significantly sped up. Maybe there's a problem setting the sample rate etc on conforming.

If I convert the files to MXF, they seem to play and edit OK - so far.

Anyone else got a PMW-EX3?"

Best Answer:

The main reason is that the XDCAM EX MP4 is not the best editing format for Premiere Pro. Well, here we’d like to offer two solutions for you to resolve the issues.

Solution 1: Transfer the PMW-EX3 XDCAM EX MP4 back into MXF

You could transfer the XDCAM EX MP4 footage back into usable MXF files using the Sony XDCAM Browser. It seems to work OK as far as we’ve got with the projects. Trouble is, storage for bigger projects (like the 300GB footage project we’ve just shot) can be a problem. And we have to note that Adobe PP can’t handle the MXF files well all the time, especially the older versions.

Solution 2: Convert Sony PMW-EX3 MP4 into a Premiere Pro highly friendly format

To solve the tough question, we’ve found out a workaround, although it may take a little while to convert. You will need a decent Sony XDCAM EX MP4 to Premiere Pro Converter to re-format files to MPEG-2, the most compatible format for Adobe Premiere Pro. It is ideal for you to experience a high quality and high efficiency post-production workflow of XDCAM EX MP4 clips into Premiere Pro.

Step 1: Download, install and launch the best Video Converter to load your raw MP4 videos to it.

Step 2: Move your mouse pointer to Format icon and tap it; select Adobe Premiere Pro/Sony Vegas >> MPEG-2(*.mpg) as the target format.

Step 3: For editing MPEG-2 in Adobe Premiere smoothly, we recommend you set 1920*1080 as video size and 30fps (or 29.97fps for original 59.94fps files) as Frame Rate on the Profile Settings panel.

Step 4: Start converting Sony EX3 raw MP4 to MPEG-2 for Premiere Pro CS4/CS5.

When the conversion process shows in 100%, you can tap the Open button on the main interface to locate the output MPEG-2 video. Now, just transfer and edit Sony PMW-EX3 XDCAM EX footage in Adobe PPro CS4/CS5 as you want.
